Thank you for all the lovely comments on the Hourglass pullover (and on my musings about creativity, and on my concerns about my teaching...)

it's funny but just about every time I get feeling like "nobody's reading, nobody cares, I should just pull the plug on this" then I get a batch of comments that remind me that people do read.

I also got another reprint request on Friday - this one from City University of New York (a postcard in the mail). It's gratifying to get those. It makes me feel like someone wants to read my research. (Maybe Big Famous People don't like getting reprint requests; maybe it becomes routine and thus, a hassle. But it hasn't for me - I remember with my first big paper, when I was in grad school, I got lots of requests from Hungary and Romania and places like that. Probably because the paper was on restoration of mine spoils, and there's lots of mine spoils in central Europe. But anyway - it's fun to get those postcards, it's sort of a little, "See - you DO exist!" to me.

And maybe it doesn't become a hassle for some people...I remember when I was starting grad school, I sent a request off to Jessica Gurevitch, who is more or less a Big Famous Person in her particular field. And I got a reprint back, with a nice (handwritten and signed) encouraging not written on the top.)

Yesterday started Soctoberfest.

So I kicked it off (hee) by turning the heel on one of the ongoing sock-projects:

frenchheel

It's Mega Boots Stretch, so although the leg looks skinny, it will fit. I used a French heel on these.

I don't remember the color number but I'm kind of sad that it doesn't show up better - it's perfect autumn colors: sort of a burgundy background mixed with plies of green, red, orange, yellow, purple, and blue. Sort of like fallen leaves mixed with sky. I love those kind of ombre yarns where the colors subtly blend into each other; I have a bunch of the Encore "colorspun" colors in my stash to eventually be made into scarves. (I want to do Knitty's "wavy," and some of those knit-purl-reversible-patterns...)

I feel better today than I have in a while. I wonder if that cold I had had sort of an "aftereffect." I've heard doctors say that with some viruses, it can be several weeks after you get over them before you actually feel NORMAL normal again.

But then again, it's also Monday and I'm well-prepared for my classes and the specific subjects I'm teaching right now are ones I enjoy and am super-comfortable with, so that could be part of it.

feeling good about what you're doing today always helps your physical well-being. i like the sock, even if i can't see it well, however, i do have a question. there are so many names for different heels, i gotta ask. what is a french heel?
