Random Things Tuesday....
I finished the first of the Megaboots Stretch sock last night. Cast on for the second one but of course I'm not very far as Monday night is my teach-'til-7 night and I always come home tired. About 8:30 I went to bed and read.
I discovered this weekend that I've re-developed a sensitivity to poison ivy. I was immune to it for years - to the point where I'd go and pull it out of people's yards for them and not be affected. Well, no more. I took my ecology class out on Wednesday and I must have got into some, it's all up and down my arms now (it showed up Saturday). I have some kind of clear-calamine-type stuff I'm putting on it, but you are only supposed to use it 3 or 4 times a day, and that's not enough to keep off the itching. (I'm not brave enough to try the bleach cure, and I've never seen Fels Naptha soap in the stores here [I wonder if they even make it any more]. I tried some Burt's Bees "Anti Poison Ivy Soap" but unless it has a cumulative effect, it's worthless.)
....are two things enough for a Random Things post? I'm drawing a blank here. And I need to get down to work.

the best way to deal with the actual rash? hot water. as hot as you can stand it. your body can only produce so many histamines at once, and you can literally "burn" the itch out. you run hot water over the rash, until it stops itching (and it will itch like a so&so until it does). when it stops itching, you'll have relief for a few hours. it's how i got to sleep. granted, for someone like me, i have to have massive amounts of steroids to rid me of the stuff (i'm hyper sensitive, i get it one place, and it's like my body has a rash convulsion, and it's everywhere!), but the hot water works. and it's cheap, too!
