I do, once in a while, finish things.

This is "Wolfie" (short for Wolfgang), a crocheted dog

I used the pattern from here (I bought my copy, and the Bernat Soft Boucle to make it, at Hobby Lobby).

Wolfie came out larger than I expected:

As I remember, I started this back in February. While watching the "Puppy Bowl" on Animal Planet, no less.

I didn't really modify the pattern - I think if I were making it again, I'd use a smaller hook than what was called for. And I didn't bother to embroider the "claws" on the feet - I just didn't feel it was necessary. And I made the face a little differently. It's surprisingly hard to embroider on crocheted fabric, or at least stuffed crocheted fabric.

That's one thing I like about these types of projects - you can put them aside (for several months, this project was stuffed in a bag in my guest room) and they will wait for you. Not like painting/gluing/papier-mache projects, where you have to have a place to set it up and leave it set up, and finish it all at once.

I've made lots of "critters" over the years - sewn, and knitted, and crocheted. And one thing I will say is that the crocheted ones in particular, they have a floppiness and a "squishy" quality that is very appealing. Sometimes woven fabric (in sewn critters) winds up a little stiff once it's sewn and stuffed, particularly if it's a smallish animal with lots of darts and shaping. And even the knitted critters are somehow more stiff and "formal" than the crocheted ones.

wolfie is darling. are you going to keep him, or is he going to go to a deserving child?

and just a thought on your voting comments from saturday's post.

i do vote, and i try to find out what's what. however, i am swayed by the commercials. however, it's usually "i'm not voting for that guy because he focuses on the negatives of the other guy, and not what he can do for me and mine while in office." if you can't come up with anything better than the other guy didn't pay his property taxes when he should have, i'm not interested. that has been happening with our senate race this year, and the ads have been fast & furious since early this summer. and both the major runners have been indulging in this type of mudslinging. i haven't even seen ONE ad for governor, and very few for our house representative. however, these senate guys have both turned me off so much, i'm seriously tempted to either vote for an alternative party, or write in "no confidence." wish we had a no confidence option, cuz these guys make me sick

Wolfie is adorable! I agree about the "stiffness" factor of the various construction methods.
