Ten Knitting Things About Me. (This has been making the rounds; I saw it here).

1. I started knitting again (after having learned as a child) in 1997 or so. I saw a ball of Wool-Ease in that autumn variegated color and wanted it. I started out making just a blah garter stitch scarf but when it was done, I had enough left over for mittens, and my mom showed me how to make mittens on double pointed needles. It was knitting in the round that hooked me.

2. I still try to knit things in the round as much as possible. And I prefer dpns to circulars for small projects. I know people love The Magic Loop or the two-circulars-for-socks thing, but for me - give me my double points, thanks.

3. I'm a selfish knitter; I don't do a lot for charity. My hat is off to the people who are unselfish.

4. I like variegated yarn. Probably more than is good for me.

5. My greatest knitting joy is getting to try out a new yarn. Oh, I have my yarn-loves, but there's a special joy in finding a new yarn from a new source or a new dyer and being able to try it out. And I love exotic fiber-combos.

6. If I knit a gift for you and you don't use it or don't seem to like it, don't expect anything handmade from me ever again. Yeah, it's selfish, but I like to expend my creation-time on people who will love and cherish what I've made.

7. I have many projects going at once. I'm happiest that way. Although if I have too many I do get kind of twitchy and sad - I think it's because I'm dividing my time so much I fail to see progress. I should probably sometime figure out the law-of-diminishing-returns of starting new things or the Gaussian Curve of Happiness as related to Number of Projects.

8. I don't really have a favorite project type. For years, I would have said socks were my favorite. But I also love lace shawls, and I've been feeling the sweater-love lately. And I can't forget knitted toys - I love to knit toys.

9. I've never tried entrelac. Mainly because I've not yet seen a project that was so much a have-to-have for me that I want to do it. (Also, for some reason - entrelac sweaters remind me of those giant baggy 80s style sweaters that you wore over leggings and with your hair all teased and sprayed up into a porcupine display. I know there's beautiful entrelac out there but I just can't get into it).

10. I'd far, far, far rather do cables, lace, or a fancy-stitch pattern than colorwork. Both because DOING colorwork irks me (I cannot keep a good tension for Fair Isle; I knit too tight) and because I'm less interested in how it looks when it's done. Cables and lace are what really make my heart soar.

Well, I've done my obligatory research-time for the day. I'm still debating what Fun thing to do - whether to just go down to Denison for a quick few hours of antiquing and hit the used-book store and maybe lunch out, or whether to go home and get my boots and go up to Chickasaw. (I don't know though. The last time I was there alone, I interrupted some chap who was....ehrm...."communing" with nature off on a side trail. Kind of unsettling. So I'm a bit off of going hiking alone these days.)
