Boo drought!
Hooray rain!
We got some rain last night - it started thundering and then it began to rain. It was quite heavy for a while.
I can't quite explain to people who don't live in a drought-prone area the sort of giddy joy that a person feels on seeing rain (and HEARING rain, and SMELLING rain) when it's been months and months and months since a good rain.
I hope this is a harbinger of things to come. We might get more rain this afternoon; I really hope so.
Also, I started cleaning my office this morning. So far I have half of the "shelf" on my computer desk cleared off. But here are some "before" (totally before; I took them as soon as I walked in the door) pictures.
My office is very small and it's impossible to get a perspective that shows the whole thing while standing in the office. So here are two shots.
Yes, I realize it's very bad and probably a fire hazard. That's why I'm cleaning it now. (The main problem is that we don't have an easy office-paper-recycling system; for some reason* we have to shred it first, which adds another step, so I tend to pile things and say, "I'll recycle this later.")
(*not for any kind of privacy reasons; we're SUPPOSED to shred any paper with student id's or grades on it. But I'm talking about things like old phone messages, and scrap paper, and old copies of handouts I gave in class - nothing that would be a security or ID theft risk).
That second one, if you can't tell, is my desk. I generally work at the computer desk, and generally just dump any papers that are in the way into a stack on the floor.
My father's office looked not unlike this when he was teaching at Akron when I was growing up; I think that's how I came about being an office-pig. (By contrast, I'm generally okay at keeping the house clean. A little cluttered maybe but never to the horrorshow proportions of the office).
I'm going to work on it for half a day today and see how far I get. I have a week so if I totally burn out on one day, I can always come back later.
