the continuing saga...(I hear the announcer for the Muppet Show's "Veterinarian's Hospital" in my head).
At least I now have a vehicle. My co-leader of the youth group heard what happened and asked me how I was getting around town. I kind of shrugged and said, "Walking...I guess." Well, she has a "spare" car - actually a "compact" pickup - that had been her daughter's. (When her daughter moved to Wisconsin, she bought a smaller car because she was living in a city apartment with small parking spaces). So Dessie has loaned me the truck. Her grandson had been using it to practice his driving in (he's got a learner's permit), but he agreed it was more important for me to have the car now.
It's a pretty nice car. I wouldn't want one as my new car, but it's perfectly serviceable. And now I don't have to try to plot and plan how much time I have to budget in the morning to walk to campus and get there in time for my 8:00. (And it might rain tomorrow.)
And, as is often the case - you're most grateful for the "little things" when you have missed them. I felt an almost giddy joy as I walked into the local Mart of Wal (it was on the way home from Dessie's place). I don't have to ration my orange juice any more! And look, there's a whole-wheat baguette! So I can make bruschetta with the tomatoes I harvested out of my garden! And milk! And spinach! And I don't have to worry about how to carry it home in my backpack!
So one problem is solved. Sadly, also, my a/c is acting up - the blower sounds like it's dying. The unit itself turns on and off appropriately, and produces cool air, but most of the time the blower does not move it through the house. And it runs and runs and runs for v. long (like 15 minutes) after the a/c unit has shut off, which it is not supposed to do. So I have it turned off for now but will turn it back on before I go to bed. (The blower works for a while and then becomes inefficient. And I cannot sleep well when I am too warm. I have fans going everywhere which helps more than a little. And it's overcast today and less hot than it's been.)
I have a call in to the "good" HVAC place's answering machine; I'm going to try to make an appointment to get someone out. Yes, it's more bucks going out the door at a bad time, but I suspect it would be even worse if I let it go and the whole unit broke down.
