Yes, I am still here. I am still grading.
The e-mailed paper never arrived. Oh, I got an e-mail purporting to have something attached, but nothing was. (And yes, I emailed back immediately but apparently the person didn't check their e-mail again. I may start a policy against accepting e-mailed papers in the future; it seems that there are too many things that go wrong - unintentionally or perhaps in some cases by design ["If I pretend I'm a right git with the computer, maybe I can buy myself some more time." I don't think that's the case here, but at any rate, I don't have the paper).
Most of the papers are okay. Some are pretty good. I'm still bothered by the fact that 1/4 of the papers are totally unaccounted for - no frantic phone call, no "I really need more time," no excuses. I wonder if they will show up mysteriously in my box tomorrow.
(Just checked - no papers yet).
I'm really tired and it's really hot in here and I have a second loaf of bread to bake tonight for a departmental lunch thing. (There's one "going" at home right now in the machine - I ran home around 3:30 and mixed it up. At this rate, though, the next loaf won't be done until midnight. I don't know whether to try and set the timer [there is no milk or egg or spoilable stuff in the bread] and hope that it works overnight and is done in the morning, or to go to bed as soon as I start La Machine and set my alarm clock for when it's supposed to be done, and get up and muzzily try to undo the bread, or whether to bake it and let it cool in the machine overnight and worry about getting it out the next morning. (Actually, the third option sounds best to me.))
