Why I'm grumpy:
this morning, since I arrived just before 7, I have:
tracked down, compiled into a single file, and sent off to a co-author the figures for a paper that he says he "cannot evaluate" the paper without. This involved two computers, a slow buggy program, and zip disks. I know the figures will not be to his liking but I wasn't going to spend three hours (that I do not have) to tinker with the slides.
graded 15 exams (from a class of 20; I assume the other five are using it as their "drop test."). The average is probably somewhere in the 50s (which means a lot of folks who took the test will use it as their "drop test"). I'm not looking forward to handing these back.
sent off an abstract for a summer conference I'm going to
modified and copied a set of guidelines for a large project.
read two applications for Vertebrate Animal Usage in research, as I'm supposed to be a "proxy" for a colleague in jury duty on the committee meeting. One of them is fine with me, the other I'm not so sure about as it uses transgenic critters and all.
prepped my teaching for this morning. Yes, the class with the "reader." I think I'm going to make them go outside and tell me what they would need to measure to adequately characterize the ecology of the area we're in. Or something. It's the "hit the wall" part of the semester where everyone's tired and apathetic (even the faculty) and it's hard to get people to care a whole lot about stuff.
In other news, I think I AM going to do 'use what you have' month - I've been looking at my stash and seeing things I want to use. And I have so many projects going on right now. And I have next to no time. The only knitting I actually did yesterday was to make 10 more rows on the robot's back. But I did get my house mostly cleaned - I just have to sweep and scrub and get the recycling stuff out this afternoon.
but I'm still tired. And grumpy.

Ah, but the imporant question is, in the middle of all that, did you see the cool fishphibian fossil?
