Thank you for all the nice comments on the quilt top!
It was a lot of fun to make. I think I'm going to do more rectangle or square one-patch (or simple block, like Fan Blades or Rail Fence) quilt tops. For me, a big part of the fun is putting the colors together and seeing how they blend and coordinate. It's less fun for me to worry about (as I said) points or precise angles or spacing of things in applique.

It's hot here.
(How hot is it? So hot, one of my students went out turkey hunting and he found his turkey pre-cooked for him in the forest. So hot, the trees are trying to come indoors to get a little shade. So hot, that Satan appeared on Main Street and said, "dang, what are you guys using to heat this place? I need to look into getting one of your kind of furnaces.")
I mean, it's really hot. They were having "rolling blackouts" in Dallas and Fort Worth yesterday because of the unexpected demand for power. (April is traditionally when they take some powerplants offline for maintenance, because typically April is one of the pleasanter months).
And....the ventiliation was off in my building again yesterday! And....I spent the afternoon in a field lab with students! All I can say is, I'm darn glad we didn't have rolling blackouts here because it would have well and truly stunk to have come home, after sweltering in my office and sweating in the field and find that my house was without a/c.
The ventilation is back on now but I'm not trusting it to last long. And today is Transfer Student Day, and somehow, my department chair and I are the **only ones** who seem to have free time this afternoon to help with enrollment. (I am not sure whether to remark or not that we are two of the three female tenured profs in the department, and the third woman prof has anatomy labs from 1 pm to 5 pm....but it seems INTERESTING to me that other people that I am pretty sure have at least an hour or two free during that time didn't own up to it...)
Anyway.
The other effect of the heat is that I'm not sleeping well at all - even with air conditioning, even with a ceiling fan going - I don't sleep. Or I don't sleep deeply.
So I'm tired and borderline cranky and my asthma and allergies are acting up. I even tried, last night, spending the evening quietly - listening to music, knitting on the Owl socks and then the bottom band for Samus (and it's going to have to cool down a little soon, so that I feel UP to picking up alllllllll those stitches and knitting on the body of a big sweater). Even that didn't help with my sleep, so I think it's just the heat.
I hate heat. This part of the country has many things to recommend it but the summer weather is definitely not one. And I don't appreciate summer starting in April.
