In case anyone's looking for Wilbur, here's the permalink.

I just realized that there's going to be an April Fool's Day joke, played on a grand scale, played on all of us who are early birds (or who must get up early in the morning). Tomorrow is the start of Daylight Savings Time.

And while I appreciate that now my youth group kids will be able to play dodgeball without having to turn out all the outdoor lights, I really hate the thought that it will not be light until several hours after I get up in the morning.

I can't help but think that it's a plot, hatched by the night-owls of the world, to disrespect those of us with 5 or 6 am wake-up times.

I totally don't understand why we still DO this. It's not saving any electricity, as far as I can determine. Everyone's groggy and off their schedules (=productivity down) for several days (to several weeks) afterwards. Everyone has to reset multiple clocks. It doesn't benefit those who still farm - after all, if you're a dairyman or woman, the cows don't know that it's now daylight savings time and the 4 am milking will be delayed an hour...It's one of those things (like some of the tax laws and forms that we're required to fill out) that seems intentionally wasteful and complex, and could be done simpler and better. I'd like to see standard time year 'round. It's really lovely to wake up at 6 on a spring Saturday and have the whoooolllllle day ahead of you - it's like a gift, those couple of extra hours of being awake in the morning. (I don't feel that way about the "couple extra hours of light" at night - I tend to wilt about 9:30 pm regardless of how light it is out.)

i am particularly sensitive to the time change. and this year, i've been sick on top of it. i was actually feeling quite better yesterday. today, blech. part of it may be staying up later than normal (mark, who normally dies around 8, actually stayed up with me, and we watched monty python until midnight!), and part was it rained all day. still, with daylight savings on top of it, i'm coughing more, and blowing my nose more, and ended up taking 2 naps (one at his parents' house this afternoon!). so now i'm wide awake, cuz it's only 9! (but it's 10! gah!)
