Huh. Two (of nine) people showed up for my 8 am class. So I dismissed. I figure that 1/3 of the class present is my cut off. (Neither of them were upset; one has an exam in another class this morning). I feel bad doing it but it's kind of pointless to cover some of the more complex material with two people in the class who have As at this point. My second class today is an exam. So I guess that means I spend this time updating next week's handouts and making sure all of my online course material is up to date.

Oh, and dragonknitter - when I talk about the "invisible years" I mean that period that hits, somewhere between 35 and 50 depending on the person, where you sort of become "invisible" - where guys start calling you "ma'am" and treating you like they would treat one of their mother's friends. The point at which, were you a Hollywood star, you'd start getting offered "character" parts if you got offered parts at all. (Maybe being single and unattached just makes me more conscious of it, although I will say that as a somewhat-fat-chick and someone who was never drop-dead-gorgeous, I've pretty much been "invisible" my whole adult life).

I know what you mean about being invisible and on the border of "older." I am in that age range and feel weird when the younger faculty address me as Mrs. ... even when we are meeting in private. It makes me feel oldish. It seems like only yesterday that I was one of the younger. Good luck with the twerp reading in your class.
