Sock? Puppet?
This is a photo of the Embossed Leaves sock (as far as I am on it) from the Winter Interweave Knits. I'm using KnitPicks "Essential" sockyarn, which is kind of like the Elann 4-ply sockyarn. (I do hope it softens up with washing; while it's a good price it is nowhere as nice in "feel" as something like Lorna's Laces is).
It's hard to photograph a sock-in-progress when you have to stretch it slightly to show the pattern. The cuff looks a little distorted but that's because I spread my hand out to show off the leaves.
I learned a new cast-on for this one - a sort of rib cast-on that is tubular. It's shown in the "techniques" section of this issue of Interweave - it's a little tricky at first but not too hard once you get the hang of it.
And okay, maybe the guess-what-project-this-is trope has already been played out by bloggers more flashy and popular than I, but I'm having fun taking pictures of this thing as I work on it, so here's another shot of the new project-in-process:
Now there are two! What *will* they be?
