My goodness.

This has been quite a week. One of those weeks that feels like it's a month long.

I'm glad to see the end of it. And I'm glad that I don't have anything major or pressing: I have a few journal articles to read and a paper to consider revising, and a bit of grading. But I can gather all of that up after my 11:00 class gets done today, and take it home. I can grade while I sip a cup of tea and listen to some Bach (or some Brave Combo). And I can read the articles and my paper while finishing up the knit on the first of the "Gentleman's Winter Socks."

(Yes, it's been a week of Almost No Knitting.)

I'm also contemplating the next sweater project - and I could swatch that while reading, too. I'm torn between several projects, all of which I have the yarn in my stash for:

the zig-zag cabled sweater vest from a back issue of Interweave Knits (I think it was Spring 2005. It's shown as a man's vest but could totally be unisex. It's shown on a kindly-looking older man who makes me think of the vicars in the British novels I read). I have some leaf-green Cascade 220 for this.

The Big Sack Sweater from the first S'n'B book. I've still not selected an "alternate" cable pattern, though, I can't find one I like that fits in the space given. This one is sort of pushed to the back burner for now.

The Hourglass pullover from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I like the idea of it, all knit in the round, I like the shaping - but, as it's been so warm here, a wool pullover is less appealing.

Otis from a back issue of Knitty. This appeals to me because it's a spring-y little thing. I have some deep purple silk-blend yarn for this.

Samus. This is actually the one that appeals to me most (well, with Otis a close second). Even though it's wool, it's a cardigan, so it's not quite the same as a close-fitting, pull-on-and-off-over-the-head type wool sweater. And I feel the need for some cabling. And I broke my fear and loathing of picking up stitches on the Cache-Coeur.

Actually, I might start TWO things - TWO sweaters - if I find I have enough needles of the right size on hand. Maybe Samus and Otis, or maybe Samus and the Hourglass pullover. It feels a little decadent to have two sweaters going at once - especially since I have several pairs of socks, and scarves in various stages of being stalled out, and the Hiawatha shawl (which I WILL finish someday, but it's one of those things that requires, I think, at least an hour's concentrated time to really make any worthwhile progress on).

Would you believe how many years of knitting it took me to realize that really, it's OK to own more than one set of knitting needles in the SAME size?

It was a couple of decades, at least :)
