Just a few random things for a Monday....
Another site-of-cuteness exists at "things that make you go aahh" (I would argue that should be "things that make you go AWWWWWW...." but whatever.
also, maybe I wasn't clear on the Mr. F. business. There isn't "Mr. Fillyjonk." I'm single. "Mr. F." that I referred to is a man (married, old enough to be my dad and then some) I go to church with - he and his wife are friends of mine.
My birthday is coming up the end of this month and I'm trying to think of what, if anything, to do. I'm not sure I want to make another trip to McKinney the weekend before; the downtown is changing a little bit and some of the old favorites have either moved on or closed. Also, since I've been there so often it's a little less special. And the traffic's getting worse. And I find I have less interest in giving up a whole weekend day to go shopping, when I only get two days off. (I reserve the right to change my mind about this later). I don't want, really, to go out to eat; most of my good friends are busy that day and even though I'm not bugged by eating out alone, somehow I am kind of bugged about doing it on my birthday. (Besides, it's a Monday, so I have class until midafternoon and I have class the next day, so it can't involve being out too late). I'd consider purchasing some kind of delicacy-to-be-cooked but at this point I'm kind of out of ideas; the last bit of salmon I got (the closest thing to a true delicacy around here) was not up to my expectations.
I did order myself a couple of birthday presents (which is a little out of character for me, I mean, buying stuff specifically as a birthday present for myself.) First thing is enough Andean Silk in the color "Sangria" (sort of a dark reddish purple) for the Hourglass sweater in "Last Minute Knitted Gifts."
I also ordered this. Yes, I fully realize the absurdity of a grown woman ordering a toy sea lion (and it IS a sea lion, not a seal; note the ears and the flipper structure) for her 37th birthday. (But I can also protest that I got such a measley allowance as a child that I'm kind of now living that childhood dream, of having the money to buy the things I want, and no one telling me that I already have too many toys, or that I need to save up for something more "practical")
I've also ordered a few things from Amazon of late - I got sucked into a "free trial" of their "Prime" service, which is free two-day delivery. (And, it turns out, free two-day delivery to any "valid" (i.e., non PO box) address. So if I can find good birthday presents for my dad and brother - the next two birthdays coming up - I'm going to order them from there). That's almost as good, for me, as running out to the bookstore in Sherman to get stuff. It's $79 after the three-month trial is up, but I suspect Amazon is banking on people getting hooked on the idea of getting stuff shipped fast for free. (And people will probably order more stuff, too - just like you eat more at a buffet). And they might be right with me; I really like ordering something and having it show up two days later. Often when I want something I have to wait more than two days to find the time to break free and drive to a bookstore or the store that sells CDs or summat like. (Now, if Amazon started carrying yarn and needles and other craft impedimentia, I'd be in a LOT of trouble).
