My father goes in this afternoon for his first knee replacement.
Given my phobia about general anesthesia (both for myself and for people I care about), I'm trying hard NOT to think about it. My mother said she would call me this evening after the operation was over, but "if I get home after your normal bedtime, I don't want you waiting up so I'll call Friday morning."
I resisted remarking that I wouldn't be sleeping anyway if I'd not heard from her, as my father was on the other extension.
In other news, I'm back to trying to work on the quilt (which has been in the frame since fall, 2002) a few minutes each day to try and push it towards completion. I also have two other quilts I'd like to handquilt someday - the vintage bow-tie quilt I bought at an antique shop, and also a quilt of Provencal-themed (if not necessarily colored; it's not a red-blue-and-yellow quilt but is rather in shades of lavender, gold, brown, green, and a little bit of red) that I found a perfect backing for (windows, with windowboxes of herbs) over my break. (And it was on sale - it was in the "$2, $3, and $4 so we don't have to count it or report it on next year's inventory" room of the quilt shop. First quality fabric - originally $8 or more a yard, knocked way down in price just because it's a little "old").
I think the "Provencal" quilt will be next. (As much as "next" signifies when I'm probably 2/3 done on quilting a quilt I've been working on for over 3 years).
