Diann: the pattern is available, and even better, free!
Aran Braid socks for Teri. It's one of the patterns from the late lamented Vanderbilt U. math-department site that someone maintained with a whole mess of knitted patterns, including one for a realistic toy squid. Some of the patterns live on in other places....fortunately the aran braid socks one wound up on the knitlist site.
The squid, alas, seems to be gone. There's a squid baby hat, apparently from a British magazine, but this was a little toy squid. Cute, too. It also used double knitting - my first and, so far, only foray into that part of the craft.
(I should locate the little guy - I used to keep him on my nightstand but I think I moved him - and take a photo. It's really a cute little thing. I used a pair of glass eyes for the spooky mammal-like squid eyes.)
(And Charlotte: if you're reading this, the magazine is STILL sitting in my house. Maybe if I can get myself organized early enough tomorrow morning I'll run it down to the post office. I just realized this afternoon I'd not sent it yet. Sorry!)
