dang it.
just checked my email and got one from the gourmet shop in Sherman that I had frequented - they're going out of business (and are very nearly so; they said 90% of the stock had already sold). Just the week I realize I need a new teakettle and when I wanted to buy one of those silicone muffin pans.
This makes me sad; the shop was a frequent stop for me. And I don't know of another gourmet shop anywhere nearby - the one I knew in McKinney has apparently gone out of business.
I guess it's Amazon.com for the teakettle. Sad, really, I looked at one at the gourmet shop in my parents' hometown but didn't buy it because I said "Oh, I could get one at O'Fiddlesticks and then I'd not have to haul it back."
It makes me sad when something that was sort of unique was lost. I can't imagine that she's been pushed out of business, there's no other gourmet shop I know of north of Dallas. (although if she was, by people shopping for cheaper but less distinctive stuff at the Wal-Clones, then that is really sad. Though somewhat typical for this part of the country - often price is the ONLY consideration, and not just for people who can't afford anything else). There were a couple products I bought there - a really good salad dressing, and also a chocolate sauce - that I don't know of any other source for.
