Oh, my stars, is it ever HOT.

I walked from my building to central campus (not quite a 3/4 mile round trip) over an hour ago and I still feel overheated and, um...glowy.

(that's the saying, isn't it? "Horses sweat, men perspire, and ladies glow"? Well, I need to go home and take a bit of that glow off in the shower).

I also finally found a fix to the centroid problem. It's a jerry-rig fix, but it's a fix. After talking with several people and discovering that nothing existing in the data set would work for creating an event theme ( = nothing had x, y values tied to it), I went through county by county and clicked on the approximate geographic centroid (approximate = as close as I can eyeball it) and wrote down the false easting and false northing values. And then I'll add them to the data base and use THEM with the event theme.

I'm kind of irritated with myself for not doing it that way earlier - for my being pigheaded and going "noooooo, I don't WANT to sit and click on all 102 counties and then have to enter allllllll thaaaaaat daaataaaaa!" Because you know? It took a lot less time than searching the data base for files that "might" work.

Must stop seeking elegant solutions over solutions that actually work.

Anyway, that was my afternoon, after a too-heavy lunch at the local Chinese buffet (one of my colleagues was being uncharacteristically unfrugal and treated us all; we expected we were all paying our own ways when we decided to go with him). I could go home and do the 1/2 hour of exercise I didn't do this morning (did 20 minutes and gave up because the air was about thick enough to see) but I kind of don't think I will.

I hate humidity. It was 100% humidity and over 70* this morning when I was trying to exercise, which was why I felt like my lungs were going to burst out of my chest and walk away from me in disgust.
