I've turned the heel and am working on the gusset decreases of the second of the Eccentric Cables socks (I bet you forgot that I was working on those!). I hope to have these done before I start my travels in just over a week (and, as I said, I'll post my pattern for them, such as it is). I'm beginning to think about travel-knitting. I will take the Hiawatha shawl, of course, and I suppose the simple socks that are in progress. Maybe the Canal du Midi socks, which I am still working on.
But I also want something new. I'm considering Folk Socks and the St. Peter's Port striped socks (I have had yarn in-stash for those for over 5 years. I know because I moved the yarn with me when I moved down here). Then again, I'd like to write/chart out the Crest O' The Wave pattern and use it with the "Cape Cod" colored "Sock Landscapes". Somehow, it seems right to me to use a sea-named pattern for that yarn.
Another option would be to look at "Knitting on the Road" again and consider one of the lace socks for, say, the Daffodil "Sock Garden" I have, or some of the plain solid-colored Elann sockyarn.
I do need to plan carefully; it looks as though there will be a 14 hour drive (one way and then 14 hours back) if I do go visit extended family with my folks. So I'll need an extra project or two for in the car. (The Hiawatha shawl would not work so well; it takes a little too much close attention and counting).
I'm hoping my KnitPicks order comes before I leave; I can look at the new sockyarns I ordered and see if anything in there speaks to me. (I DO wish Knitpicks would come out with a line of all-solid-color sockyarn. I dream of somewhere that offers a good, reasonably priced fingering weight in a tremendous array of colors. It seems any more that a lot of the German companies are either offering just "man colors" in the solids, or else they're priced really high).
