An update on the Snowman quilt: I went down to the quilt shop on Saturday and bought backing fabric, and also investigated the process of the long-arm machine quilting more thoroughly. Turns out there are many many different possible designs. She also has a variety of battings to use, including a wool batting.

So I decided: it's expensive, but if I have it done, it will be done and I can use the quilt. So I've got the backing washed, seamed, and ironed, I re-ironed the quilt top (it got creased while storing and transporting it). I'm hoping I can break free early enough today (I have faculty-meeting at noon and I have to get an allergy shot) to run down there before she closes up for the day and drop the quilt off.

On Saturday, she didn't have a quilt on the machine and had no waiting list, so she said if I got the quilt down there soon she could have it done in a week or less.

Oh, and thanks for the comments/email about my dilemma yesterday. I'm a little better today. One of the things about me is any big news, any coming change upsets me and makes be broody and concerned. (And I mean ANY news, even good news - getting an announcement earlier this year, sort of out of the blue, that a good friend was going to get married also threw me for a loop for several days. I think it just takes me a while to fit a new piece of information like that into my worldview). I'm still holding out that it was a false-positive - after all, these are screening tests, not specific tests, so the false-positive rate is fairly high.
