O Joy, O Bliss!
Looking at the "Rafn" pattern again last night, I realized the yarn - even though it's called "sport" in the pattern - knits up at a light-worsted/dk gauge.
And I realized I had that alpaca blend from Elann I bought last fall, that was about a light worsted.
I looked at the pattern again. 1500 meters required for my size. I looked at the yarn. I have 1600 meters (roughly; a bit more than that).
So, I think my come-on-fall project (once I finish what I've got planned and on the needles now) is going to be Rafn, in wine-colored Elann alpaca/wool blend. (Even better, the original pattern calls for an alpaca yarn so the drape should be the same).
This yarn was the first I bought "on spec" - without a pattern in mind. I had been contemplating several ideas but none seemed quite right. ("I love it when a plan comes together," as a line goes from a television show I watched in my misspent youth)
I got out early this morning to collect milkweed seed. Very nearly got poured on. Got in a half-hour of scraping on the garage before the storms hit here. So, since it's too wet (and there's too much lightning) to work outdoors, I'm going to knit instead. Right now I'm plugging away on the Sitcom Chic, I think I shall photograph what I've got so far and post it tomorrow.
At first, I was going to rip it out after the first few rows - this looks stupid I told myself, this is a yarn much better suited for children's things, not for a person who pretends to be grown-up and sophisticated. But I kept knitting. And you know? The yarn drapes really nicely. It works up into a pleasant fabric. Yes, it's pale blue and white with tiny rainbow colored threads shot through it, but it might work over jeans or a casual chino-type skirt. And it may work over a little chambray dress I have.
So I'm withholding my opinion on the stupid-lookingness or not of the sweater until it gets done. My only concern is that it will look too much like mutton dressing up as lamb on me, but I do still have a teenaged cousin that it might fit...
