First of all: I'm fast approaching being done with the center of the Kilimanjaro Kat shawl. I'm down to four pawprints now. Also, a quick look at other knitblogs revealed to me that it's not that I'm a cruddy photographer, it's just that lace is inherently hard to photograph well.

So I set the shawl down on my yoga mat (good contrast there) and went to photograph.

And I was beset with the curse of all who would blog-with-photos: the batteries had lost their charge.

So, hopefully this weekend, I'll have a shot of the lace shawl, at least as far as I am on it now.

And second: The Friday Five (been a while since I did one of these):

1. What do you do for a living?

Ecologist and college professor.

2. What do you like most about your job?

Teaching, feeling like I'm making a difference in the world, the students, entering data and analyzing it and seeing the pattern jump out at me, taking students out in the field, my colleagues.

3. What do you like least about your job?

Committeework, meetings, grading, dealing with people who think that simply showing up every day entitles them to an 'A,' getting back rejected journal articles and having to rewrite, having people act like I'm either Einstein or a witch because I have a degree in biology.

4. When you have a bad day at work it's usually because _____...

Usually it's either because a million little things are going wrong, or else because the normally-delicate balance of juggling all the different things I have to do has been upset because of someone's outside influence.

5. What other career(s) are you interested in?

I can't imagine not teaching, but I suppose some kind of artisanal thing, especially where I could be involved with teaching people.
