Cast on for, and did the first four rows of, the Chinese vest from Folk Vests.

I'm using Inca Alpaca, which I've decided is closer to a sportweight (that's how it feels to me, anyway) than a dk weight. So far it seems to be working out. The color is called "Cala Cala Moss," but it is prettier than any moss I have seen. Where I hail from, moss is a rather depressing dark bluish green. This "moss" color, instead, is a nice misty green with yellowish overtones - rather more like grass-covered hills viewed at a distance, and rather more Celtic than South American looking.

I don't anticipate any knitting tonight - back in the fall, I (foolishly?) agreed to help out with some owl surveys, and it looks like tonight may be my night. Sigh. What sounded so good on a warm September afternoon is not quite so appealing now when it's been under 40* and that damp cold that penetrates even the thickest layers of clothing.
