Well, today was interesting.
Someone cut the fiber optic cable that linked up all the campus networks. Cut it good, in two places at one point. Apparently there are multiple breaks. (there is construction going on all over campus, and apparently the party responsible for informing the construction guys of the fiber optic lines wasn't)
Most of the campus is going to be off-line until at least Friday. My building was "lucky," in that we might be back tomorrow. I could not print anything today (networked to the one functional printer in my department), I could not check my campus e-mail, I could not search the web for articles for a project I was planning. I could not read knitting blogs while I ate lunch.
sigh. This is one of those "you don't miss the water until the well runs dry" situations. I'm concerned also because I have students with fairly important research papers coming due next Friday and I suspect some of them might be trying to work on them (I hope some of them are already working on them).
In happier news, I finished the back of the Circus pullover last night. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll have enough wool - I have 8 balls (the pattern called for 7) and it took about 2 1/3 for the back alone. I may either have to be figuring out how to make it without the hood, or trying to solicit for another ball or two of the yarn. (I HATE it when patterns underreport the amount of yarn required. I'd much, much rather have leftovers than have to scramble to get more).
