A newer blog to check out (one I hadn't heard of until its writer e-mailed me, hi Teresa!) is One More Row. She's weekly for a while, but maybe we can entice her to post more frequently?

Not much knitting. I tried knitting a bit on my green socks while reading Ian Stewart's "Natures Numbers" (I'm reading it for a proposal I'm writing) but I'm at the point in the book where it's on "autoclose" if I don't actively hold it open. Sigh.

I also mowed my lawn last night. My orchids (Spiranthes cernua, the nodding ladies' tresses) are up again and starting to bloom. (These are orchids that have apparently hung on, wild, in my yard since the time the area was a grassland - I can't imagine anyone planting them as they are out in the yard, they are a wild native species, and they are not tremendously showy.

But I like 'em. I mowed around the area where I knew they were (they were blooming last fall; one of the first things I saw upon driving up to the house the day I closed on it were the orchids) and they are rewarding me by blooming again.

You can see a picture of the species here (link to a page in the wonderful Noble Foundation plant image website).
