From The Friday Five
1. What are your hobbies?
I love to read, knit, sew. Most of the sewing I do is quilting - I have tons of quilt fabric. I have a quilt in the frame right now, plus one that is marked, ready to be quilted, plus a finished but unmarked top, plus a top that just needs borders put on it, plus lots of miniature quilt tops that need to be quilted. And I make teddy bears and dolls.
2. Do you collect anything? If so, what? I used to collect dolls. I haven't bought any in a while. I also collect stuffed animals, as silly as that sounds for a 30-something woman. And I'm looking for souvenir plates - you know, those little plates that are designed to hang on the wall, that were sold as souvenirs of a state or an event? I have 6 of them so far, they are hanging on my bathroom wall. I want to find more. But they have to be ones that are designed to hang on a wall, and those can be hard to find. I also collect books. And I guess you could say I collect fabric and yarn, but I'm going to use it all someday, really.
3. Is there a hobby you're interested in, but just don't have the time/money to do? I'd like to learn to spin and to weave, but I don't have the time/patience to learn drop spindle spinning (I tried a year ago) and I don't have the space, time, or money for a floor loom right now. (My mom has a floor loom she never uses - I told her NOT to sell it or give it away, that if she was thinking of getting rid of it, I would take it).
Actually, I wish I had more time for all of my hobbies.
4. Have you ever turned a hobby into a moneymaking opportunity? I have occasionally sold a teddy bear. I don't really like selling my work. I'd rather give it as gifts.
5. Besides web-related stuff (burbs, rings, etc.), what clubs do you belong to? I belong to AAUW (American Association of University Women), a bunch of professional scientific organizations (Sigma Xi, etc.), a book club here in town. I used to belong to the local quilt group but they meet at a time when I have classes.
