Oh, goodness. It's been a week.

At least it's nearly over. I met with the third candidate just now - it's going to be heck deciding between them, they are all good but all good in different ways. This guy was really interested in the research I did, and it was a lot of fun to shoot the breeze about projects I'd like to do in the future. He would be someone that could potentially be a collaborator - he seemed more interested in that than the others I talked to.

I'm trying to find resources to make my Chemistry stuff for next week more exciting for the students. Not having tremendous success but here are some chem-sites that are interesting (though not applicable to what I'm doing):

Bizarre stuff you can make in your kitchen!, including the Cartesian diver (do you remember those little Tony the Tiger premiums of about 10 years back, where you could put the little Tony figurine in a pop bottle and get him to rise and sink? That's a Cartesian diver). The site also includes a recipe for a Humidity Sensor using cobalt chloride like the ones you used to get in Cracker Jack boxes.

Of course, none of this has anything to do with biochem, cool as it is. A site that is really really funny but you have to promise not to try at home is Strawberry Pop-Tart blowtorches.

All of these sites and more are indexed here

As for other things, I have the heel-turn done on the first of the Mini-Ringel socks. Not much else, between worrying over Egbert (who is back now, fixed) and work-related stuff.
