Progress on various fronts.
Sunday, I fringed the Bloomfield Throw. It is done!!! There are few things that feel better than finishing a long-term project (I started it last May).
Got a lot done on the Terryspun baby blanket. I knitted about half of it during "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" on AMC (since TMC bought up most of the movie rights, AMC generally shows old monster movies or 70s movies, but this was a rare good one). I didn't know how funny much of the movie was. And yes, at the end, I was going "let them get married, you old fart" at Spencer Tracy's character. And yes, I cheered at the ending (sorry about the spoiler)
Started the Spanish Shawl. Picked away some at the Latvian socks. I've decided that once I get these done, it's going to be chunky socks for a while - size 0 needles aren't that much fun, esp. when you have about 15 minutes (on an average day) to knit.
Garden progress: I am slowly digging up my backyard with the idea of putting in large amounts of garden space. I dug up all the area in the side yard (maybe 4 feet by about 10 or 12 feet) over the weekend. It's too shady for herbs (my original idea), so I'm going to have to look up what kind of shadeloving plants tolerate the Oklahoma heat and dryness.
I built a little raised garden area (using some concrete edgers the previous homeowner left behind) along the back wall of my house. I'm going to have to see how the sun is there but that may be my herb garden, or maybe my zinnia garden. (I love zinnias and they grow well here).
I have a lot more digging to do. Now, I have to be careful, because I'm getting into the area where I saw the ladies' tresses orchid in the backyard last fall. It's not an endangered species or anything, but I don't want to kill it anyway. I've got a few of them in my front yard, too.
My original thought was to dig them up and replant them, but that scares me a little - I don't want to kill them, they are too beautiful. The leaves are up now (they are a basal rosette) and if I leave them alone, they will be flowering come September.
I also have a flowering quince (a/k/a japonica) that is already flowering. Or at least was (it's supposed to
drop into the 20s tonight).
I anticipate spending a lot of money on plants once we are past frost danger.
